Question

How do I obtain a new Y ID Card?

Answer

YSU ID cards (Y Cards) are used around campus for redeeming Pete's Points, as a swipe card for printing, checking into the Rec Center, and more.  Both Students and Faculty/Staff should obtain a Y Card.

To obtain a new Y Card, please follow the steps below.

  1. Navigate to the Y card site.
  2. Click Personalize in the left column.
  3. Click Upload Your Photo.
  4. Review the Guidelines and click Agree.
  5. Upload Proof of Identity.
  6. Upload your photo with a white background.
  7. Crop photo if necessary, (need just above their shoulders and head).
  8. Submit for approval.
  9. Check email for approval notification.
  10. Visit the Penguin Xing located on the second floor of Kilcawley Center.
              a. Bring your old YSU ID card to turn in or provide a valid Government-Issued ID.
              b. Have your Y number ready to give the staff at the front desk to speed up the process of making the new Y Card.

If you experience any issues with trying to submit a photo or if your new Y Card is not working, please email the cardoffice@ysu.edu or call 330-941-3516.

In addition to your new physical Y Card, you have a Virtual Y Card  and can access the virtual Y Card and site 3 different ways.

1. Download the YSU APP and navigate to the Y Card tile and select Virtual Card.

2.  Log into the Penguin Portal and under E-Services the last link listed is Y Card.

3. Visit the site directly  Y Card Portal for more detail.

Your virtual Y Card can be used in multiple places around campus.

  • Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center
  • All off and on-campus dining locations for meal plans.
  • Maag Library
  • Xerox printers with barcode readers

Your Y Card photo may be imported into your Blackboard profile.

Request assistance with Y Card by visiting the Y Card  Help Center or contacting the IT Service Desk at (330) 941-1595.
