As YSU’s Digital Transformation project continues, one of the biggest components of the project is to move storage from network drives (Y-Drive) and campus shared drives to Microsoft’s Cloud-Based Storage Environment. As we continue to move forward, there will be an eventual phase out of your personal Y-Drive and department shared drives beginning May 2023. This Service creates a request for assistance in moving your data to either OneDrive, MS Teams, or Stream (on SharePoint).
The future storage environment will be as follows and in the description of the request, please provide the necessary information listed below.
- Microsoft OneDrive will replace your personal Y-Drive.
- Please provide your username in the description.
- Microsoft Teams file repositories will replace department shared drives (buckets & vaults)
- Please provide the full path or drive letter and name of the shared campus drive that is being moved. For example: \\bucket.ysu.local\S_TechDesk
- A Microsoft Team will be created for the shared drive. Please note when files are transferred from the shared drive to MS Teams, the files and folders will appear in the General Channel of the Team. You will want to create channels for the various breakdown of files that only certain people can see. Please reach out to IT Training Services for a consultation on using MS Teams.
- Stream (Classic) is changing to Stream (on Share Point).
- Please provide your username in the description.
Important Notes
- Please inform all parties that use this shared drive that the files are being moved. Once the files are moved the campus shared drive will be locked.
- Please review your file titles and ensure that they do not have special characters like a / or . or other symbols are part of the file title. Dashes are ok. Also check the length of the titles as OneDrive does have a character limit total. The total path cannot be more than 365 characters.
