Request Software Installation

Faculty and Staff

This service allows you to request the installation or updating of approved software on YSU owned computers or a virtual environment managed by IT such as the YSU App Cloud. There are some software packages which are available for installation on Non-YSU owned devices (ex. SPSS).

New software installation should not be requested unless the procurement process is complete (including free software) which includes a technical review and pre-approval before the purchase request will be approved. See the procurement guidelines here. 

Check the following lists to see if the software is already available for installation:

• Check Standard Software on YSU Owned Computers for software which should be installed on all university owned computers.
• Check Site Licensed YSU Software for software which can be installed on university owned computers. 
• Check Software available for Remote Installation for software which can be remotely installed over the network. 
• Check YSU App Cloud: General Apps for software available in the general lab virtual environment.
• Check YSU App Cloud: Engineering Apps for software available for engineering instructors and students in the virtual lab environment.

If the software is not on any of these lists:

• Please have any software installation media, licensing information and vendor contact information available.
• Additional time may be required to build and test deployment package if the software needs to be installed on multiple computers.

In order to expedite software installation, please provide the following information in the request:

• Software being requested (include version, if available)
• Purpose of software: If the software be used for teaching and learning, research or YSU business operations
• What will software be installed on: YSU Technology Services tag number(s) of computer(s) or Virtual Class Lab - YSU App Cloud
• Location (Building and Room Number) in which software will be used

A technician / engineer will review the request and contact you with any additional questions.

A faster turn around time can be expected if the software is on one of the lists above and the computer is turned on and connected to the YSU wired network.

If the software is not on one of the lists above and is needed on multiple computers, a minimum of 10 business days time will be required to build and test deployment package. 

No cost associated with software installation. There may be additional costs if software has not already been purchased by YSU or Department.
