Browsers: Clear the Cache, Cookies, and History

Question

How do I clear my web browser's cache (temp. files), cookies, and history?

NOTE: YSU websites and systems work best in Google Chrome. Firefox is a good alternative too.

Answer

 

Desktop Browsers:

Chrome:

  1. Click on the 3 dots in the top right corner
  2. Click History then History again in the side menu that appears
  3. Click Delete Browsing Data from the left panel:
  4. Set Time Range to All Time and make sure all 3 boxes are checked, then click Delete Data.
  5. Quit Chrome and reopen it.

Firefox:

  1. Click on the 3 horizontal lines in the upper right corner of the browser.
  2. From the drop-down menu, select History.
  3. Then Select Clear recent history.
  4. Set "When:" to Everything on the drop-down selection
  5. Check all 5 boxes then click Clear
  6. Quit Firefox and reopen it.

Microsoft Edge:

  1. Click the 3 dots in the top right corner and click History
  2. In the new panel, click the Trash Can icon.
  3. In the new tab, the Delete Browsing Data box should appear.
  4. Set Time Range to All Time, check all 4 boxes, then click Clear Now
  5. ​​​​​​​Close Edge and reopen it​​​​​​​

Safari:

  1. Using the ribbon at the top, click History, then select Clear History.
  2. Change "Clear" range to All History, then click Clear History.
  3. Quit Safari then reopen it
     


Mobile Browsers:

Android:

You should be able to clear your cache and data from your application management settings menu on most Android devices with the following:

  1. Go to Settings and choose Apps or Application Manager.
  2. Swipe to the All tab.
  3. In the list of installed apps, find and tap your web browser. Tap Clear Data and then Clear Cache.
  4. Quit all browsers and re-open.

Chrome on Android:

  1. Tap the Chrome menu and then Settings.
  2. Tap (Advanced) Privacy.
  3. Tap Clear browsing data.
  4. Quit all browsers and re-open.

Safari on iOS:

  1. Open your Settings app.
  2. Tap Safari.
  3. Tap Clear History and Website Data and confirm.
  4. Quit Safari and re-open.
