How do I setup Respondus Lockdown Browser for Chromebook (beta) in a Blackboard Original Course?

Answer

Lockdown Browser for Chromebook is only available for Blackboard Original courses. If your course is an Ultra course this is not currently an option. Before enabling this option in your course, be aware of known limitations and issues listed at the bottom of this KB Article https://support.respondus.com/support/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/586

YSU Instructors/Teachers

During the beta period, instructors will need to enable the use of the Chromebook version on a per exam basis

  1. Go to the LockDown Browser Dashboard within Blackboard Learn
  2. Select Require Respondus LockDown Browser for this exam
  3. Expand Advanced Settings and select Allow students to use LockDown Browser for Chromebook (beta)
  4. Save the exam settings for LockDown Browser

Students

Installing LockDown Browser to a Chromebook is easy.  

  1. Log into the Chromebook and start Google Chrome
  2. Go to the download link for LockDown Browser (this link is a unique link in your Blackboard course when attempting to take a test); you will automatically be redirected to the Chrome Web Store.
  3. From the Chrome Web Store, select Add to Chrome to install the LockDown Browser Extension
  4. Log into Blackboard Learn and navigate to the exam that requires LockDown Browser
  5. The LockDown Browser extension will be started automatically when an assessment requires it
  6. Note: during the beta, this extension will only work with assessments an instructor has enabled for use with LockDown Browser for Chromebook
