YSU Network Access: Assess and Connect to the YSU_NonStandard Network

YSU encourages the use of wireless and wired connectivity for any device that can connect using a YSU username and password or an Ethernet cord into a port for the best experience.  However, there are devices that cannot connect to an enterprise network or do not have an Ethernet port such as a Nintendo Switch or a Roku Streaming devices.  This service provides students, faculty, staff, vendors or other YSU community members the ability to request a device be connected to the YSU NonStandard Network.  Please allow 24-48 hours business days for the request to be completed.  

Important Note:  For YSU students please use your YSU email address as the email contact in the request.
 

Use the following examples to determine how to best connect your device.  Please note, You may also have more than one device with an Ethernet jack on the device but only one wall jack to plug into.  IE: Gaming System and TV. Plug in the gaming system to the wall jack and submit the TV for the NonStandard Network.

Wireless Connectivity 
Connect all devices  to YSU_Wifi that allow you to enter your YSU Username and Password

  • Phones 
  • Laptops/Computers
  • iPads
  • Tablets

Wired Connectivity with Ethernet
Requires a CAT 6 Ethernet Cord and device to have an Ethernet port to plug into the Wall Jack.

  • Desktop Computer/ Laptops
  • Gaming Systems—Wired connectivity  provides the best gaming experience.  
  • Certain Smart TVs and Amazon Fire Boxes

Connect to YSU_NonStandard Network Devices
If your device does not fit in the two previous categories, please use this service to request to be connected to the YSU_NonStandard Network.

  • TVs
  • Nintendo Switches
  • Amazon Alexa, Echos, Fire Sticks, etc
  • Google Nest Products
  • Meta Products
  • Roku and other streaming devices

The service request requires the following information:

  1. Name
  2. Phone Number
  3. Email Address,
  4. Residence Hall and Room Number or Building and Office Number
  5. Device Make and Model Number
  6. Wireless Mac Address. (You will need to Google your device make and model for directions on finding the MAC address)

You will need to submit a ticket for each device that needs connected to the YSU_NonStandard Network.

2 Important Notes

1. It is important to note that YSU Faculty, Staff, and Students, do not connect to YSU Guest as this will not allow you have the best connection experience or allow you to access certain campus resources such as printing. 

2. If you have a vendor, contractor or other YSU community member that needs to connect a device but unable to connect using the guide below, please submit a service request on their behalf as the sponsor.  You will need to make sure to provide the contact name and contact number for our staff to reach out and assist them with connection.
