How do I remotely access my YSU PC from off campus? 

Answer

This guide will assist you with remotely accessing your YSU computer from off campus. Be sure to fully complete each step before moving on to the next.

Required Items:

  • You will need to be granted proper privileges in order to remotely access your PC from off campus. To obtain remote desktop privileges, contact the IT Service Desk at 330-941-1595.

  • A YSU directory account

  • Penguin Connect VPN

  • The TS Tag number of the computer on campus that you wish to access remotely. 

Step 1: How to Install and Connect to the Penguin Connect VPN

In order to remotely access your on-campus computer, you must first be connected to the YSU VPN. For instructions on installing and using Penguin Connect VPN, please view the documentation here: How to Use the Penguin Connect VPN

After installing and connecting to the Penguin Connect VPN move on to Step 2. 

Step 2: How to Remotely Access Your YSU Computer from Off-Campus 

  1. First ensure that you are connected to the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility client. 
     
  2. Click the Start Menu in the lower-left corner, and then type in: Remote Desktop Connection 
     
  3. Select the app Remote Desktop Connection (shown in the photo below).


     
  4. The Remote Desktop Application should open. Enter your On-Campus TS Tag number and click Connect

     
     
  5. You will be prompted to enter your YSU Credentials. Do not enter your credentials. Instead, select More Choices.

     
     
  6. After selecting More choices, select Use a different account. Then you will need to enter ysu\username and then your YSU password in the password field. (shown below)


     
  7. Select OK, and your on-campus computer should display in a few moments. 

How to Use Microsoft Remote Desktop with Multiple Monitors:

Please follow the steps shown in the below video to utilize/span multiple monitors within a Remote Desktop session.

If you are unable to successfully install the YSU-provided Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility VPN Client or Remotely access your YSU computer, please record the error message you receive and submit a service request.
