Question

How do I set up my Office 365 email on a mobile device?

Answer

Note: These steps are to be used for the built-in Gmail app on your Android device and the built-in mail app on iOS devices. For configuring other third-party mail apps, your username should be updated to username@ysu.edu and the new server address is outlook.office365.com.

Apple Devices

  1. Go to your iPhone or iPad's Settings.
  2. Scroll down and tap Accounts & Passwords and then Add Account.
    • Note: If you're using iOS 10, go to Mail, then Accounts, and then Add Account.
  3. Select Exchange.
  4. Enter your YSU email address (username@ysu.edu) and a description of your account (YSU Email). Tap Next.
  5. Tap Sign In.
  6. Enter the password associated with your email account. Tap Sign in or Next.
  7. The Mail app may request certain permissions. Tap Accept.
  8. Choose the services you want to sync with your iOS device and tap Save.
  9. Scroll to the bottom and change Mail Days to Sync from 1 month to No Limit
  10. After completing these steps, your Apple device should be set up for O365 emails.

Android Devices

  1. Before you begin, update the Gmail app to the latest version. Open the Google Play Store app on your phone or tablet.
  2. Type "Gmail" into the search bar and then select Update.
  3. Open the Gmail app. Tap the menu icon in the upper left corner.
  4. Select Settings, then Add account, and then Exchange and Office 365.
  5. Enter your full email address (username@ysu.edu) and tap Next. Enter your associated password and tap Next.
  6. You may see a Redirect request screen. Tap OK.
  7. On the Incoming server settings screen, change your server to outlook.office365.com.
  8. You may also be asked to confirm Remote security administration and approve additional security measures. In this case, choose OK or Activate.
  9. Go to the inbox you just set up. If you see an email that says "Action Required to Sync Email," open it and tap Use another Mail app instead. If you don't see this message and emails are syncing, skip this step.
  10. Pull down the Android notification bar by swiping down from the top of your screen.
  11. If you see a notification that reads "Unable to sync calendar and contacts," tap it. Then tap Allow to give access and you're done!
    • Note: If you don't see a sync error, verify your calendar and contacts are syncing.
