Overview
To ensure the best browsing experience, we recommend installing or updating your web browser to the latest version.
Updating your web browser can resolve a variety of issues you may be experiencing such as:
- Inability to view certain content: New web technology is often only supported by updated browsers.
- Faster and more responsive browsing experience: New browser updates can increase the speed at which websites load.
- Increase security: Browser updates fix bugs and potential security vulnerabilities that may leave your computer exploitable.
Please note: Updating your web browser should not affect any personal settings, such as saved passwords, history, your default home page, and saved website-handling information and your bookmarks.
How do I install or update my Google Chrome browser?
How to install Google Chrome:
1. If you do not already have Google Chrome installed, you can download this browser for free by visiting:
http://google.com/chrome
- Select the Download Chrome button located in the middle of the page. This will download the Google Chrome installer file.
- Run the Google Chrome installer file and follow the on-screen prompts. This will install the latest version of Google Chrome.
If you already have Google Chrome installed:
1. On your computer, open Google Chrome.
2. Check the Menu button located in the upper right corner. This menu appears as 3 dots in a vertical line.
- If you are seeing the three dots, then your web browser is already up to date.
3. If you have pending Google Chrome updates, the three vertical dots will be replaced by, a ,, or up arrow. Or the three dots may be colored as well.
- Green: An update was released less than 2 days ago.
- Orange: An update was released about 4 days ago.
- Red: An update was released at least a week ago.
Click the green, orange, or red arrow. Then, from the pop-up menu that appears, select Update Google Chrome.
Please note: Normally updates happen in the background when you close and reopen your computer's browser. But if you haven't closed your browser in a while, you might see a pending update:
The browser saves your opened tabs and windows and reopens them automatically when it restarts. If you'd prefer not to restart right away, click Not now. The next time you restart your browser, the update will be applied.

How do I install or update my Mozilla Firefox browser?
How to install Mozilla Firefox:
1. If you do not already have Mozilla Firefox installed, you can download this browser for free by visiting:
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/
- Select the Download Now button located in the middle of the page. This will download the Mozilla Firefox installer file.
- Run the Mozilla Firefox installer file and follow the on-screen prompts. This will install the latest version of Mozilla Firefox
If you already have Mozilla Firefox installed:
1. On your computer, open Mozilla Firefox.
- You may briefly see a prompt that Firefox is installing updates. If you see this prompt, you should be updated to the latest version.
- You can verify this by continuing with the steps below.
2. Select the Menu button located in the upper-right corner. This menu appears as 3 horizontal lines.
3. Select the Help option from this drop-down menu.
4. Select About. This will open the About Mozilla Firefox window.
5. If updates are available, there will be a Restart to update Firefox button. Click this button to update to the latest version.
6. If your browser is up to date, Firefox will state: Your browser is up to date.

How do I install/update my Internet Explorer browser?
Warning:
We STRONGLY recommend against using Internet Explorer.
- Microsoft ended support for Internet Explorer versions prior to version 11 on January 12, 2016. This leaves older versions of the browser open to vulnerabilities.
- Even the newest version of Internet Explorer is NOT compatible with Blackboard. You will be unable to access Blackboard using any version of Internet Explorer.
- Many other websites have began phasing out compatibility for Internet Explorer, so you may be unable to view content on certain websites.
Microsoft Edge is designed for faster, safer browsing and is recommended for Windows 10.
Internet Explorer 11 is also included in Windows 10 and is automatically kept up to date. To open Internet Explorer, select the Start button, type Internet Explorer, and then select the top search result. To be sure you have the latest version of Internet Explorer 11, select the Start button, select Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and then select Check for updates.

How do I update my Microsoft Edge browser?
Microsoft Edge is built into the Windows 10 operating system and thus is kept up to date via Windows Updates.
- To ensure that your browser is up to date, select the Start button, select Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and then select Check for updates.
- Install any updates that Windows finds available and restart your PC.

How do I update my Safari browser?
Safari is built into the Mac operating system. To keep Safari up to date for the version of macOS you're using, install the latest macOS updates.
The most recent version of macOS includes the most recent version of Safari. For some earlier versions of macOS, Safari might also be available separately from the Updates tab of the App Store.
Apple no longer offers Safari updates for Windows. Safari 5.1.7 for Windows was the last version made for Windows, and it is now outdated and no longer recommended to use.
