Overview

This guide will provide instructions on how to disable and enable the pop-up blocker in your browser. 

Select your browser listed below for instructions on how to disable your Pop-up Blocker:
 

Google Chrome 

Mozilla Firefox 


Microsoft Edge 

Safari Browser


Google Chrome

Allow or block all pop-ups:

  1. Launch the Google Chrome browser. 
  2. At the top right, click the 3 dots  then choose Settings
  3. Under Privacy and security click Site settings.
  4. Click Pop-ups and redirects near the bottom.
  5. Change the "default behavior" area to Sites can send pop-ups and use redirects or Don't allow sites to send pop-ups or use redirects.
  6. You can also put in specific websites to allow or block under the "Customized behaviors" area and choosing Add then pasting the link of the website(s) you want to allow or block pop-ups from.

Block or allow pop-ups when prompted:

  1. Launch the Google Chrome browser
  2. Once on a site where a pop-up has been blocked, in the address bar, click the Pop-up blocked message.
  3. Make sure you actually trust the website you're on that's asking (i.e., YSU websites and trusted 3rd-party sites like Cengage, Pearson, McGraw Hill, ALEKS, etc.)
  4. To always see pop-ups for a site, select Always allow pop-ups and redirects from [website address].
  5. Select Done.

Mozilla Firefox

Allow or block all pop-ups:

To access the pop-up blocker settings:

  1. Click the menu button in the upper-right corner  and choose Settingsfrom the drop-down menu.
  2. Select the Permissions and data panel on the left side of the Options window.
  3. Under the Permissions section, uncheck the box next to Block pop-ups and third party redirects to disable the pop-up blocker altogether.
    • You may also select Exceptions, to manually allow pop-ups from specific websites. 
    • To manually allow Exceptions, select the Exceptions option, and then type the exact address of the website you want to allow.
    • Click Allow.
    • Click Save Changes to save your changes. 

Block or allow pop-ups when prompted:

  1. Launch the Firefox browser
  2. Once on a site where a pop-up has been blocked, below the address bar you'll see a message, Firefox prevented this site from opening a pop-up window.
  3. Make sure you actually trust the website you're on that's asking (i.e., YSU websites and trusted 3rd-party sites like Cengage, Pearson, McGraw Hill, ALEKS, etc.)
  4. Click on Options and choose to Allow or Block pop-ups for [web address].

Microsoft Edge 

Allow or block all pop-ups:

  1. Launch Microsoft Edge. 
  2. Select Settings and more  in the top right hand corner. 
  3. Select Settings from that drop down menu then choose Privacy, search, and services.
  4. From there, choose Site Permissions > All Permissions > Pop-ups and redirects
  5. You can then toggle the on/off switch for Blocked.
  6. Just like Chrome, you can add specific websites to block or allow by pasting their web address in the respective area.

Block or allow pop-ups when prompted:

  1. Launch the Edge browser
  2. Once on a site where a pop-up has been blocked, in the address bar, click the Pop-up blocked message.
  3. Make sure you actually trust the website you're on that's asking (i.e., YSU websites and trusted 3rd-party sites like Cengage, Pearson, McGraw Hill, ALEKS, etc.)
  4. To always see pop-ups for a site, select Always allow pop-ups and redirects from [website address].
  5. Select Done.

Safari 

Allow or block all pop-ups:

  1. Launch the Safari browser. 
  2. Click Safari in the top left corner of your menu bar next to the icon.
  3. Choose Settings > Websites > Pop-up Windows 
  4. In the lower-right corner of the settings window you'll see When visiting other websites: and then a drop-down to Allow, Block, or Block and Notify
  5. Select Allow to allow all pop-ups. 

Block or allow pop-ups from a specific site:

  1. To allow pop-ups for a specific website, navigate to that website, then go back to the Pop-up Windows screen, you will see Currently Open Websites
  2. Make sure you actually trust the website you're on that's asking (i.e., YSU websites and trusted 3rd-party sites like Cengage, Pearson, McGraw Hill, ALEKS, etc.)
  3. Select the drop-down menu next to the currently open website and select Allow
  4. Changes will be saved automatically. You may now close out of the Preferences window.
