File Storage: Migrating Data from "Y" Drive to OneDrive

How do I migrate data from my "Y" drive to OneDrive?

Answer

Follow these instructions for accessing and migrating your data from (Y:) drive to OneDrive.

Accessing your (Y:) Drive: 

  1. Click the File Explorer icon in the task bar at the bottom of your screen. 

  2. Select This PC

  3. Click the (Y:) drive under Devices and Drives (\\tank.ysu.local\<username>)(Y:) 

    • Note: If you are a freshman entering the Fall 2019 semester or after, you will not have a "Y" tank drive. New students are given OneDrive for storage. Use this instruction set only if you entered as a freshman prior to Fall 2019 and have stored files in your "Y" drive.

Migrating Data:

  1. Access your (Y:) drive using the steps listed above.

  2. Right-click and highlight all of the files being stored that you wish to migrate.

  3. Click Move To on the top tool bar in File Explorer

  4. Select Choose Location at the bottom of the drop-down menu.

  5. Select OneDrive - Youngstown State University from the menu.

    • Note: If this is the first time accessing your OneDrive on a device, you will be prompted to sync OneDrive to that device using your YSU login.

  6. Make sure to check the OneDrive - Youngstown State University folder to ensure successful migration.

    • When files are successfully moved between folders, a green check mark will appear on each file in OneDrive

OR

  1. Access your (Y:) drive using the steps listed above.

  2. Right-click and highlight all of the files being stored that you wish to migrate.

  3. Right-click again and select Copy.

  4. Access the OneDrive - Youngstown State University folder.

  5. Right-click and select Paste.

    • When files are successfully moved, a green check mark will appear on each file in OneDrive.
