How do I request, install, and use Privileges App on my Mac computer?

Answer

Request Administrative Rights on a YSU Computer

To request administrative rights on 1 or more computers, please fill out the Request Computer Admin Access Form. Once reviewed and admin access is approved, move onto How to Install Privileges App section. 

Install Privileges App

Perform the following steps once admin access has been granted through the Request Computer Admin Access ticket. 

  1. Open the YSU Self Service App on your Mac.

  1. Click Search Bar in the left side menu and search for Privileges.
  2. Click the Install Button and wait for the app to download and install.

  1. If the Privileges application does not show up as an option to install, type "Refresh YSU Self Service" in the search bar and select "Refresh".

Gain Temporary Administrator Access

Perform the following steps to gain temporary administrator access on your computer. 

  1. Open Privileges App from your Applications folder if it isn't already running.

  1. Click Request Privileges button.

  1. Enter your password to authenticate gaining access.

  1. The Privileges App icon will change to orange and unlock with a 10 minute timer. You will also see the timer in the top menu bar counting down.
  2. At any time you would like to revert back to standard user access, open the Privileges App and click Revert Privileges.
  3. Once the 10 minute timer has expired, your account will automatically revert back to standard user access. You can then request access again, if required.
